In recent months, Nick Kyrgios has carried out a real crusade against Jannik Sinner, after the Italian was found positive twice for Clostebol, during the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. The 29-year-old Australian has been the protagonist of barbs, mockery, and comments towards the ATP No.1, who for his part has never responded to the provocations.
His statements have divided the media and fans. Many have supported Nick, while others have sided with Jannik.
Former world No.1 in doubles Mark Woodforde, has supported the supporters of the Italian, warning Kyrgios, as he revealed during an interview with Tennis365.
"I think he's divided part of the tour with the comments he made about Sinner and they've put a big target on his back. It's quite brave to say that, but we don't know how he'll cope because he's been away from the Tour for so long.
He'll have to get results quickly, which won't be easy because a lot of players on the Tour will be licking their chops at the thought of playing him and will put him back a step or two. Hopefully he'll be ready for the Australian Open because there's going to be a lot of attention around Kyrgios, especially when Jannik Sinner comes in," he said.
Meanwhile, Kyrgios returned to the court at the United Cup after a long layoff. The Australian has had to go under the knife twice in his 18 months away from the court and has only been able to watch his colleagues, sometimes even as a commentator, battle it out with rackets in their hands.
The former Wimbledon finalist has worn the clothes of a commentator, in which he has also performed with good results, but he always gives his best on social media. The Italian, instead, is waiting for the CAS sentence about the Clostebol doping-scandal, which could arrive in March 2025.
