After an overwhelming start to 2024, Iga's dominance at the top of women's tennis seemed unchallenged by any of her opponents. But in the end, this wasn't the case: Aryna Sabalenka's impressive technical and mental growth allowed the Belarusian to change the situation. The 3-time Slam champion has in fact ousted the Polish player from 1st place in the WTA ranking.

After beating Karolina Muchova in Sydney at the mixed tournament for national teams, the United Cup, the Polish player analyzed not only the match but also her ambitions for Melbourne.

"I am very satisfied with my game, I felt again how my intensity prevailed until the end and I was able to overcome difficult moments by maintaining a very high level of tennis for a long time. This is what all tennis players seek, so it is nice to feel like this already in the first week of competition," she said.

About the upcoming Australian Slam, the world number 2 then said: "It is difficult to organize yourself to reach the best possible level there, because the tournament lasts two weeks and has many particularities. The main thing is to adapt well to the conditions in Melbourne, gain confidence in a previous event and have a few days off before competing there. I still have to work a lot on all aspects, to play well in a Grand Slam there is no one key, but you have to have everything under control."

The Pole will go in search of her first Grand Slam title in Australia, where she has never made it beyond the semifinals in 2022.

We recall that the Polish player was suspended for a month for failing a doping test at the end of August 2024, testing positive for the doping substance TMZ.
