The Italian will play two exhibition matches during the Opening Week of the Australian Open: against Alexei Popyrin on January 7 and against Stefanos Tsitsipas on January 10. The goal of the Italian is to arrive in the best possible conditions at the first Slam of the season, where he will try to defend the historic title won last year by beating Daniil Medvedev in a comeback in the final.
The official website of the Australian Open has published the first words of ATP No.1 once he arrived in Melbourne. The 23-year-old explained that he will use every minute of training and the two exhibition matches to adapt to the playing conditions as quickly as possible.
"We still have several days of preparation before the start of the tournament and I will take it one step at a time. I have the opportunity to play a couple of exhibition matches before the start of the tournament and I hope to be able to find the rhythm again since I haven't played since last year," he said.

Sinner then focused on his current team, in relation to the Clostbol doping-scandal that has not yet found a definitive sentence.
"I love those around me today, those who trust me first of all as a person, even within the situation that I experienced last year and that I am still experiencing. I try to surround myself with people who trust me, with whom I can feel confident: my aunt was one of these," added the Italian.
Jannik then talked about how the Christmas holidays went, also in relation to the recent loss of his beloved aunt.
"It is important to spend Christmas with family, but it was difficult after losing my aunt. She will always be in my heart, she is one of those special people that I will always keep with me. It was stressful to lose such an important person, who gave me so much advice and made me experience beautiful moments in her company. Mine is a united family and I like to be with people who trust me in everything. That's why it was a strange Christmas," Jannik analyzed honestly.
