Sporting CP are not planning to sell striker Viktor Gyokeres in the January transfer window, reports in Germany have claimed.

The 26-year-old joined the Portuguese giants in 2023 in a club-record transfer worth 20m, but is now thought to be worth five times that amount after developing into one of Europe's most prolific goal-getters in the 18 months since.

Manchester United, Manchester City, Barcelona and Real Madrid have all been strongly linked with Gyokeres, with the former now managed by ex-Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim, but the Swede is unlikely to be on the move in January.

Sky Sport Germany's Florian Plettenberg reports that Sporting CP are not planning to part ways with Gyokeres this month, despite further interest from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

Gyokeres has scored a sensational 21 goals in just 17 Primeira Liga appearances this season, adding a further nine in all competitions to take his season tally to 30. His ruthless run of form follows a sparkling debut season that saw him bag 43 goals as Sporting CP won the title at a canter from rivals Benfica.

Those interested in signing Gyokeres are unlikely to be put off by Sporting's stance, with a summer transfer always likely to be a more viable option, but does increase the likelihood of moves being made for some of Europe's other leading marksmen.

Lille's Jonathan David could be available for a reduced price in January - his contract expires at the end of the season - while Paris Saint-Germain's Randal Kolo Muani is likely to be heading for pastures new after failing to become a regular fixture for Luis Enrique.
