Alexander Zverev knows that 2025 will be one of the most important seasons of his career. In 2024, the German champion has shown that he has definitely returned to the highest level after the serious ankle injury he suffered in Paris in 2022, but he has not yet been able to break the curse in Grand Slam tournaments.

Sascha has been very consistent throughout the season, winning two Masters 1000 and ending the year in second place in the ATP ranking (behind Jannik Sinner and ahead of Carlos Alcaraz), but he has lacked the high in the four Major tournaments.
The current world No.2 reached the final at the French Open, where he had a two-set-to-one lead against Alcaraz, before suffering the young Spaniard's comeback and surrendering in the fifth set. At the Australian Open and the US Open, the champion from Hamburg still showed some difficulty in managing pressure and nerves in the decisive moments.
Despite these disappointments, Sascha has improved his game in recent months and has started to have a more aggressive attitude from baseline in the second part of 2024. Alexander started his 2025 at the United Cup, but was forced to withdraw due to an arm injury that should not cause him any problems at the Australian Open.

Sascha must break the curse
Zverev is certainly one of the most anticipated players at Melbourne Park, where he hopes to start the new year in the best possible way.
In a recent interview, German legend and former World No.1 Boris Becker revealed why Sascha needs to win his first Major title as soon as possible: He is now at an age where he has to do it.
For me, Sascha has to win the Grand Slam title he longs for in the next 18 months, because otherwise, it will be much more difficult than it is now.
The German ace has already arrived at Melbourne Park and started practicing.
