WWE brought a big episode of NXT for their January 7 episode. They had a lot of attention on the company in general, and Shawn Michaels was all about kicking off the new year in epic fashion.
The NXT Championship was on the line as Trick Williams defended his title against Oba Femi and Eddy Thorpe. This match put the champion at a huge disadvantage coming into the match.
Both Oba Femi and Eddy Thorpe have been elevated up the NXT roster in recent memory. Thorpe has been scratching and clawing for this opportunity, and Femi is looking to pick up an impressive NXT Title run to match his time with the North American Championship.
This match closed out New Years Evil, and they got started without Eddy Thorpe. Oba Femi admitted to taking Thorpe out in the backstage area with a brutal attack.
During the commercial break, they showed Eddy Thorpe making his way to the ring through the backstage area, and he had a chair. All the while, Trick Williams and Oba Femi continued battling in the ring as they traded position.
Thorpe showed up just in time to break up a pinfall attempt. Then Oba Femi started destroying him in the ring. Then Trick landed a Trick Shot on Oba for a near fall. Oba threw Trick into Eddy Thorpe, who was holding the chair.
Then Oba Femi nailed a Fall From Grace on Trick Williams to get the win. Now we have a new top dog in NXT, and its Oba Femi.
