The two main favorites to win the Australian Open 2025, according to Daniil Medvedev, are Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.

The Russian talked about it during the media day of the Happy Slam, which will start in a few hours in Melbourne. The finalist of the last edition of the tournament also expressed his point of view on the partnership between Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray, comparing the two to soccer stars Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
"I think it's great in terms of everything, also for the atmosphere, the media and for the growth of tennis. Imagine Messi becoming Cristiano Ronaldo's coach. It would be strange," he said.
The Russian then talked about Alcaraz and Sinner, analyzing: "They beat me a lot last year and I didn't bother them much. I reached the final stages of many tournaments without beating them. I would like to be a troublemaker again in that sense. They are clearly the favorites, it seems normal to me. What I did against them last year wasn't enough, so I know I have to improve."

2024 has left a big question mark in the Russian's mind and concerns the level needed to try to win another Slam in his career. That same Slam that he came close to at the Australian Open last season, when he suffered a tough comeback against Sinner in the final, after being ahead two sets to zero. Medvedev ended the season without winning a title and appeared decidedly in difficulty in the direct clashes with Jannik and Caritos.
"The preparation has been great, maybe one of the best pre-seasons I've ever had. I don't think I'll ever play before the Australian Open, it starts too early in the season and I feel like I'm at an age where I want to spend more time at home. I feel good, I've had time to train and I think you'll see some interesting things from me. I'm really looking forward to it," he added.
