For a team like the Warriors thats built on dynasties, it can be hard to admit when youre average.
For Steph Curry, the moment came after a loss against the Cavs on December 30 when he said, As the kids say, were very mid right now. Were just very average.
His longtime teammate Draymond Green couldnt agree more, and is hoping that Currys comments will help motivate the Warriors.
Listen, when [Curry] said that and I read it, I was like, Oh. And I sat and started thinking about it, Green said on The Draymond Green Show. Im like, Yeah, I get what hes saying. I get where hes coming from. We are definitely right at .500, right in the middle of the pack, very mid. And we heard him, and I think weve played a little better since. But again, its still got to equal stacking wins together, and we havent done that.
Like he said, when youre going through it, you never want to really accept that youre mid or that youre not a good team, or whatever it is. Its a hard pill to accept, and we havent accepted it because we still think weve got a chance that we could right the ship, but its tough. So for him to just come out and say, Hey, its a real elephant in the room were mid right now. Like, all right. So now what? Now that we can acknowledge that, what [do]we got to do to figure this out and get better.
Unfortunately for the Dubs, the team are still crazily mid, as theyve gone 3-3 since Currys comments.
But Draymond thinks that the sooner the Warriors accept their mid status, the better off theyll be.
Another thing that it does is it can also give guys confidence, because it gives them that freedom to be like, Yo, yes, no pressure. Its what we need to do. Yeah, right, Green said. And so then they dont have to live up to the pressure thats been created by what weve done, you know? Because thats a thing you come [to the Warriors] and you feel like you need to live up to the pressure of what weve been, and thats not a realistic thing, man. And so I think that that also helps with that.
