Jannik Sinner passed the 1st round at the Australian Open 2025 by beating Chilean Nicolas Jarry - who came very close to winning at least one of the two sets that ended in a tie-break - in straight sets.

The ATP number 1 was perfect in both 6-6 situations - in the two decisive moments of the match - to impose himself and to show all his superiority, put to the test by the excellent performance of his opponent on serve and with the 40 winners scored, net of the 50 unforced.

At the press conference after the match, the Italian analyzed his performance, underlining how he was perfect in managing all the difficult moments.

"I'm very happy to be here. The atmosphere was extraordinary, the first two sets could have gone wrong, then after the break in the third I could finally breathe, he has enormous potential. I was good at managing the difficult moments. I'm happy to have won, I can certainly do a couple of things better but this is the first official match of the year and I'm quite satisfied," he said.

Australia has become increasingly special for the Italian after last year's triumph. Sinner himself praised the crowd at Rod Laver Arena, revealing what he likes most about the Happy Slam.

"What do I like here? So many things, but I would say above all the crowd. I want to give some advice to the younger generations. You also need a bit of luck, I had the right people at the right times by my side. There are many difficulties to overcome but it's important to move forward, the first thing is having family," explained the Italian.

In the next match the defending champion will challenge the Japanese Taro Daniel or the Australian Tristan Schoolkate: "Will I watch the match now? I saw that I am now in the next round, I always follow the scores of the other matches to distract myself. Obviously I will watch the match calmly to prepare."
