The return of some of the LIV Golf stars to DP World Tour events has attracted enormous attention. Although big names like Sergio Garcia decided to end their cooperation with the DP World Tour, they realized that returning to the European Tour is an important step for their career.
Jon Rahm, also a Spaniard from LIV Golf, will perform at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, just like Garcia.
The experienced Sergio was unable to play in the Ryder Cup two years ago for well-known reasons, but his return to the DP World Tour opens the door to the team again.
Rahm put the accent on Garcia in the interview with the media, stressing that he is still among the 12 best h players in Europe.
Yeah, -Rahm said, as quoted by Gulf News.
For people that see him any given day, Sergio Garcia can a can hit it tee-to-green better than anybody on the planet. It's that simple. He's still that good and he's still very valuable."
Jon Rahm: I'm obviously going to be biased towards him
The 31-year-old golfer understands why some will have furious reactions to his statements, but he has enormous respect for his older colleague and compatriot, wanting to see him in the team.
The two have great chemistry, they know each other well, and certainly their presence at this year's Ryder Cup edition would be a big deal for the European team.
Jon Rahm wants to see an experienced golfer on the team, but he won't ask much about it.
Right, I understand the change in circumstances. I get it. But at the end of the day, being Spanish and a friend and a mentor, I'm obviously going to be biased towards him. And I would love to see him in that team room but who knows what's going to happen.
I also understand we did an incredible job in that last Ryder Cup having a newer team and coming together and performing the way we did. So I hope, I believe that there's a place for Sergio in there.
I think there will be a place for Sergio on the Ryder Cup any given time. It's just a matter of time now is letting the clubs do the talking.
