Fans were left speculating after Tony Schiavone, one of AEWs most recognizable voices, missed the January 8 edition of Dynamite. Rumors swirled online, with some suggesting Schiavone had been suspended following his tweet about NJPW commentator Chris Charlton.
Schiavone addressed the chatter during his podcast What Happened When, where Conrad Thompson revealed the real reason for his absence: Schiavones wife, Lois, underwent hip replacement surgery that week. Schiavone, never one to shy away from humor, sarcastically joked about the suspension rumors.
Couldnt have been it, no. No, as a matter of fact, she got out of the hospital on Wednesday, and so I just let her walk home from the hospital instead of picking her up, and I went to TV and got suspended. But she made it home about six hours later, Schiavone quipped, poking fun at the ridiculousness of the speculation.
Conrad Thompson joined in on the laughs, noting how absurd the suspension theory was. Schiavone then reassured fans that Lois is recovering well after the surgery.
By January 11, Schiavone was back in action, calling the shots for AEW Collision. His return put an end to the swirling rumors, with fans glad to see him back where he belongs.
