England have announced their base camp and training centre for this summers UEFA Womens European Championships in Switzerland.

The Lionesses are the current holders of the competition after their historic triumph on home soil back in 2022. They narrowly beat Germany in the final showdown at Wembley Stadium to win the nations first major honour since the 1966 World Cup final.

This time around they will once again face fierce competition from eight-time winners Germany, as well as the current world champions in Spain, France and hosts Switzerland. If they are to retain their European title, they will have to overcome some of the best teams in world football.

In order to do so, England need to get things right off the pitch, which is why this weeks announcement of their base camp and training facility is a significant step in preparations ahead of the tournament. The selection brings an end to an extensive year-long such carried out by the FA, in which staff visited 23 different facilities ahead of securing qualification.

Sarina Wiegmans side will be based in Zurich throughout the duration of their campaign and their home away from home will be the scenic 5-star Dolder Grand Hotel in the outskirts of the city. It is located in close proximity to the city centre and boasts a spa and fully equipped gym, which will provide the squad with the best environment to prepare and relax throughout the tournament.

Englands training base will be Sportanlage Au, a first-class sports complex in the nearby municipality of Opfikon. The facility is owned by the local authority and is the home of FC Glattbrugg.

Sportanlage Au will provide the team with a full-size training pitch, a high performance gym and all the necessary recovery facilities. The FA have confirmed that members of the St. Georges Park grounds team will also work with staff at the facility prior and during the tournament to ensure the pitch is delivered to the highest standard.

Following the announcement, Wiegman said: Finding the right environment for the team to prepare and train but also rest and recover is one of the most important elements for tournament football. Weve seen in 2022 and 2023 our home from home has been a key part of our success and were very confident we have found another basecamp that will meet all our needs.

My thanks go to The FA for sharing this as a priority and for their support in securing these two top-class facilities. Although theres a lot of work to be done and many months to go we cant wait to get going.
