The Kazakh, after beating Jovic, talked in the on-court interview analyzing what she loves about her tennis and focusing on what she manages to do in Australia during the little free time available.

"Usually my serve helps me a lot. This time it was a little bit more difficult. Overall I think I played well. While I'm at the tournament I don't have much time. I don't do anything interesting, to be honest. Usually right after the tournaments. I love the animals here and the nature. It's nice to go to the beach and see all the animals, like kangaroos and that kind of stuff," she told.

"She's still very young. I just played another girl in the first round who is very young, great future for both of them. She's already playing really good tennis. I'm looking forward to playing more matches against her," said Elena.

The former Wimbledon winner then spoke about her work with new coach Goran Ivanisevic, explaining: "Goran is a funny guy. We didn't know each other very well before. We needed a bit of time to get used to each other. So far I think we've done a good job in the preseason. I'm looking forward to winning some titles with him," she said.

In the other women's singles matches, there was a win for the tournament's No. 2 seed Iga Swiatek, who beat Rebecca Sramkova 6-0 6-2. Also qualifying were Emma Raducanu (6-3 7-5 against Amanda Anisimova), Dayana Yastremska, Emma Navarro, Daria Kasatkina and Yulia Putintseva. Also in the third round was Ons Jabeur, who eliminated Maria Osorio.
