Malakai Black has been a key part of AEW for over three years, mostly as a member of The House of Black. However, he is likely to leave the company soon and now reports suggest that he resisted AEWs decision to extend his contract by adding extra time for his injury breaks.
According to a report by PWTorch, Malakai Blacks contract ending date became an issue because extra time was added due to him being inactive from injuries. It was added that he fought against AEW extending the contract. Sources state that either a deal has been made or is close to being finalized that will let him become a free agent soon.
It was added that many believe hell return to WWE, as he prefers the environment now that Triple H is in charge of creative instead of Vince McMahon. However, over the last year or two, he told some AEW people he was burned out, wanted a break, and even thought about retiring. Its unclear if he still feels that way, and he may have said this to AEW to make it easier to get a release.
Malakai Black hasnt been on AEW TV since the Full Gear pay-per-view in November, and reports suggest he could become a free agent by February or March 2025. He seems to have been written off AEW television, which is interesting since his wife Zelina Vega is still with WWE.
There are also reports that many AEW talent support his departure. Fans believe returning to WWE would be the best move for him, so well have to wait and see if that happens after he leaves AEW.
