The 2024 French Open finalist has often been criticized for his too passive attitude in the most tense moments and even a legend like Roger Federer had invited him to be braver in Grand Slam tournaments.
Thanks to the help of his team, Sascha has undoubtedly improved in this respect and everyone is wondering if this will be enough to finally win a Major title. The current world No.2 got off to a good start to his campaign at the 2025 Australian Open by easily defeating Lucas Pouille and Pedro Martinez, pending more probing tests that provide further indications of the German's level.
The player from Hamburg will face world number 92 Jacob Fearnley in the third round, an opponent who has played excellent tennis so far and who will not have great pressure in such an important stadium.
Sascha wants to silence everyone
During his career, Zverev has won 23 ATP titles and seven Masters 1000 titles (not forgetting the Olympic gold he won in Tokyo in 2021). A success in a Major would allow Sascha to finally make history of this sport and gain further confidence for the future.
Interviewed by 'Eurosport France' during the Australian Open, former French ace Arnaud Clement expressed all his skepticism towards Alexander: Zverev will not win the Australian Open, nor a Grand Slam tournament, but I could be wrong.
Even though I think he is below Alcaraz, Sinner and Djokovic, I think Taylor Fritz is progressing tennis-wise and mentally, which is not really the case with Zverev. The German still hasnt resolved his problems that weve known about for eight years now.
Zverev's goal is to prove to the whole world that he has finally defeated his inner demons and that he is ready to make history.
