Penta made a big statement on his first night in WWE, taking down Chad Gable on the January 13th episode of Raw.
The former AEW and ROH Tag Team Champion left AEW when his contract expired in December 2024, and WWE wasted no time bringing him in. His debut had fans talking, and even Jim Ross was caught off guard by how WWE is treating him.
On his Grilling JR podcast, Ross admitted he was surprised by the hype around Pentas WWE debut. We had him here at AEW for a good while. Soft-spoken guy, no trouble. Hardly knew he was there until he got in the ring, and then he was phenomenal. But I was a little surprised at the hype. So what it tells me is that WWE and Triple H covet him in a significant way, where hes gonna be in main events or semi-main events within the next year, if not sooner.
Ross also pointed out that AEW had a deep roster of high-flying talent, which sometimes made it harder for individual luchadores to stand out. Penta, we had a lot of that kind of style in AEW. He was one of many that did a lot of acrobatics and flying things. He might have been the best at doing it, Im not saying that. But he wasnt the only one doing it, so it made it less special. WWEs got a good stock of luchadores. They got several guys on the roster that have that background. Just gotta be careful of how you book him.
Pentas arrival in WWE is already shaking things up, and if Jim Ross is right, WWE could be preparing him for a major push.
