After a challenging 2024, things are finally looking up for Anthony Henry. The AEW/ROH star suffered two significant injuries last year, including a broken jaw in March and a torn biceps in October. The latter injury, sustained during a match against Gabe Kidd for Ring of Honor, has kept him sidelined while he undergoes recovery and rehab.
Speaking on AEW Unrestricted, Henry reflected on the tough year, saying, 2024 was not kind to me, obviously. Its weird because in the 22 years that Ive done this, Ive never really had a substantial injury. He went on to explain that his first major injury, the broken jaw, didnt even feel painful at the time. I didnt think that my jaw was broken. It didnt hurt. I didnt even know what was going on. Theyre like, Hey, you have this clean break in your jaw and youre out.
Fast forward to his biceps injury in October. While performing a dive out of the ring onto Kidd, Henrys arm hyperextended, tearing his biceps tendon. It was a clean pop, like it was off the bone. But I didnt feel it, thats the weird thing. Neither one of my injuries they didnt hurt, Henry shared. Despite not feeling pain, he could see the injury and finish the match, but an MRI later confirmed he would need surgery.
Henrys recovery has been progressing well. I got in the ring for the first time yesterday, just kind of playing around, he said. Nothing crazy, we were just kind of like doing some, you know, rolling around and chain wrestling. It was fine, so realistically if I wanted to be in the ring right now and I was actually cleared, Id be fine I think.
As part of The WorkHorsemen tag team with JD Drake, Henry is itching to return to the ring and show the world what he and Drake can do together. He mentioned backstage support from wrestlers like Jon Moxley, Bryan Danielson, and FTR, all of whom have encouraged the duo.
Looking ahead, Henry is optimistic about his return, and fans are eager to see whats next for him.
