The German has often struggled in the early rounds of a Slam, arriving in less than ideal physical condition in the final stages and, therefore, in the decisive matches against the best in the world. The German has defeated both Lucas Pouille and Pedro Martinez quite clearly and will find Jacob Fearnley in the third round.
In the post-match interview, Zverev joked about the fact that he played two consecutive matches in the evening, throwing a nice dig at Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz.
"It's the second match I've played at night. I love playing at night here and I enjoy every chance I get to do it. I hope it's not the last, we'll see what happens.

He deserves to be in the third round of a Slam. Personally, I think I played at a great level in both matches. For now, I have nothing to complain about."
