Joao made it through the Happy Slam qualifiers without difficulty, before playing a sensational match against Andrey Rublev in the first round. Fonseca left everyone speechless with his tennis and prevailed over the Russian ace in three sets, scoring more than 50 winners.
Many fans and insiders are sure that the Brazilian will arrive at the same level as Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, but he is still very young and the subsequent match against Sonego showed that he can still improve in several aspects.

Rune on Fonseca's level

Rune continued: I trained with him in Turin like year and a half ago, and I was always like he was hitting great back then even. Kind of like surprised that he beat Rublev but also knowing that he had a great level already. Yeah, it was impressive.
Joao has risen a lot in the ATP ranking and - according to the well-known coach Brad Gilbert - his rise in 2025 is only just beginning.
If he continues to improve and maintains the right humility, this player will be talked about a lot in the coming months.
