The January 12 episode of WWE SmackDown took place at the Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California. There were many reasons for fans to tune in, including a big match in the blue brands tag team division.

The nights action included a WWE Tag Team Championship Number One Contenders Match, featuring the Motor City Machine Guns against Los Garza. Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley are former champions, even though they are still technically getting adjusted in WWE. Naturally, they wanted to secure another win in their quest back to the titles.

Angel and Berto picked up a win during the January 10 episode of SmackDown, as did Motor City Machine Guns. These two teams battled to determine the next team that will challenge for the WWE Tag Team Championships.

This match started just before 9:30 as the blue brand carried on into their second hour. Both teams fought hard and lasted through a commercial break. Both teams wanted to go on and face Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano for the titles.

Berto and Angel showed off some impressive double team moves, but Motor City Machine Guns were able to kick out. There were a few near falls throughout the match. The finish of the match, Motor City Machine Guns were setting up for their Skull & Bones move, but Pretty Deadly interrupted them.

Then, Motor City Machine Guns were able to take care of Pretty Deadly just in time to maintain control of the match. They nailed a Skull & Bones once more, and then they secured a win to claim their #1 contender spot for the WWE Tag Team Titles.
