January 25 will see WWE present their next Saturday Nights Main event special, and the stakes were raised in a big way this week. The January 17 episode of SmackDown included a key segment that added a big angle to the upcoming show.
SmackDown General Manager tried to get Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens to sign an amended contract for their ladder match at the Royal Rumble all night. Both competitors decided against signing it, because they were waiting for their opponents to ink the contract first.
During this weeks SmackDown, Kevin Owens beat Rey Mysterio in controversial fashion. Then Cody Rhodes ran down to chase Owens off as he tried to nail a packaged piledriver on the WWE Hall of Famer.
Nick Aldis told Cody Rhodes afterward that Shawn Michaels will be on hand to oversee a contract signing between Rhodes and Kevin Owens at Saturday Nights Main Event. At the time, they will surrender their titles in preparation to have them hung above the ring on February 1st.
Jacob Fatu versus Braun Strowman was also added to Saturday Nights Main Event. That match was started this week when the two had a stand-off after Solo Sikoa walked out.
The Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas will be rocking for Saturday Nights Main Event. We will have to see what kind of newsworthy moments come to us before the 2025 Royal Rumble.
