Aryna Sabalenka funnily stated that tough conditions are becoming more difficult to deal with as she is getting older but also noted that she is happy with how her Australian Open campaign has gone so far.
On Sunday, the defending champion was in action on Rod Laver Arena during the day session.
And despite the very hot and humid conditions, Sabalenka got the job done in a pretty dominant way after beating world No. 15 Mirra Andreeva 6-1 6-2 in just an hour and two minutes of play.
During an on-court interview, Jelena Dokic acknowledged that it was very warm out there and stated that it looked like those warm conditions had a positive impact on her game.
"Well, you know, I'm getting older and I'm actually not sure if it's good for me," the top seed responded.
Sabalenka: I was just swinging too hard today
Throughout the entire match, the Belarusian was ultra-aggressive - and since her game clicked - it resulted in an Andreeva demolition.
During her interview, she noted that the weather created very quick conditions on the court.
"No, but I mean, like, previous day was such tough conditions, the ball was so heavy, you had swing really hard at the ball and I don't know, I was just swinging too hard and today, I came out to the court and I was just like trying to put the ball back and the ball was flying like a rocket you know," Sabalenka said.
Also, the three-time Grand Slam champion added that she was "super happy with my level" and expressed hope that the conditions would favor her in the rest of the tournament.
Meanwhile, the world No. 1 is set to battle against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the Australian Open quarterfinal.
World No. 32 Pavlyuchenkova actually has a 2-1 record in their head-to-head but they haven't played since 2021 and a lot has changed since then.
