Manchester United are undestood to have agreed to loan Antony to Real Betis for the remainder of the season.
The Brazilian misfit arrived at United for a sum in excess of 80m during the summer of 2022, but has desperately struggled to live up to that lofty price tag. Antony fell out of favour under his former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag and has been afforded just two starts by the Dutchman's successor, Ruben Amorim.
Antony was made available for a sale this month and initially attracted interest from Greek outfit Olympiacos. However, La Liga's Real Betis were the most persistent suitors and have now struck a verbal agreement with United and the winger, Fabrizio Romano reports.
The deal is still subject to a completed medical with the final documents being checked, but all three parties are believed to have agreed to a six-month loan with no obligation-to-buy clause included. By the end of June, Antony will once again be back at United.
Betis have lost their last three matches and are slumped in the bottom half of the La Liga table. Yet, the side led by former Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini are still in a better position than United.
Antony only came on for the final six minutes of the Red Devils' bleak 3-1 defeat to Brighton on Sunday afternoon. After overseeing the club's tenth loss of the league season, Amorim described the current side as "the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United".
Despite this dire run of form and the impending exit of Antony and fellow forward Marcus Rashford, the Premier League strugglers have not been heavily linked with any January arrivals. United are instead thought to have made every player in the squad available for sale in order to raise funds before Amorim can welcome any arrivals this summer.
