World no. 1 Jannik Sinner safely passed a challenging obstacle at Rod Laver Arena. The Italian faced the home favorite Alex de Minaur in the quarter-final and scored a dominant 6-3, 6-2, 6-1victory in an hour and 48 minutes.
Jannik controlled the pace on serve and return and raced into his fifth Major semi-final since Wimbledon 2023. The world's best player will be the favorite against Ben Shelton on Friday, seeking his 20th consecutive hard-court Major win.
The Italian produced cracking numbers behind the initial shot, dropping ten points and denying the only break point he faced! The home favorite served at 51% and plagued his chances against such a strong opponent. Alex dropped 46% of the points in his games.
World no. 8 faced ten break points and got broken six times, looking powerless against the machine on the other side of the net. Jannik tamed his strokes superblyand hit 27 winners and 19 unforcederrors. He reduced de Minaur to a 10-26 ratio and sailed over the top.
Jannik produced five comfortable holds in the opening set and kept the pressure on the other side. The Italian grabbed a break in the fourth game to move in front and held in the next one for 4-1. Sinner served well in games seven and nine, securing the opener 6-3.
World no. 1 broke again in the first game of the second set and denied a break point in the next one for 2-0. De Minaur experienced another break in the fifth game and fell two sets to love down after Sinner's hold at love in game eight.
With a 6-3, 6-2 buffer, Jannik took charge and dominated the third set. He grabbed breaks in games one and three for a 4-0 advantage and moved over the top with another break in game seven. It was Sinner's best match of the tournament, and he looks good ahead of his next duel.
