The last quarterfinal of the 2025 Australian Open gave Jannik Sinner a show on the iconic Rod Laver Arena. The world No.1 demolished local idol Alex de Minaur in three sets and reached the semifinals without wasting too much energy either.

The Italian ace put in the best performance of his tournament and had no difficulty against an opponent he has always defeated on the professional tour, losing just one set almost five years ago. The defending champion who had suffered a malaise against Rune in the previous round seemed to be in excellent shape and will also start as the favorite against Ben Shelton in the semifinals.
It's no secret that Australian fans expected something more from de Minaur, who was overwhelmed by Jannik in a truly one-sided match. The Aussie talent won only six games and it was immediately evident that he had no chance of creating problems for the 23-year-old from Sesto Pusteria.
DeMinaur replies to a fan
Through his X profile, an user called 'Pavvy G' harshly criticized Alex for his performance. Alex De Minaur has zero self belief that he can even compete with Sinner let alone beat him. Awful performance from him he wrote.

The World No.8 replied: Hey mate its a shame that you never became a good enough player to experience playing Jannik. Im sure you wouldve put up a better performance and know exactly how to beat him. Wishing you all the best!!!
The Australian player was quite disappointed during his press conference and confided that these conditions further enhanced Jannik's game.
The world No.1 was devastating from baseline and made very few unforced errors, being very effective even with his serve.

In these types of conditions where it's a little bit colder and you can't really get the ball out of his strike zone, he can just unload and not miss. It's tough Alex explained.
I think if we're playing middle of the day on a stupidly h*t day, then that's when you can see some errors come out, and that's when you probably see Jannik not play at his best. But conditions like today, it's tough to rattle him at all he concluded.
