There is much debate about the number 2 seed chasing his first Slam,Alexander Zverev, who is in the semifinals. Tim Henman, another Eurosport technical commentator, asked McEnroe if he thinks Zverev is the best active player to have never won a Grand Slam tournament.

McEnroe, three-time Wimbledon champion and four-time winner in New York, as usual did not hold back: "If you ask me who are the best players in the main draw who have not won a Slam, I would say Gael Monfils, a fantastic player but who I fear will no longer be able to win one.

Then I say Nick Kyrgios, incredibly talented, he has all the shots needed but I'm not sure how long he will play or will want to play, so will he win one?"

"And then - but this is a separate discussion - there is Alexander Zverev who is a great worker, he has strengthened his serve, now it is a huge weapon.

He is more inclined to go forward on the court, what he has to do is get through the first rounds of tournaments more easily so as to have more energy and be fresher when he comes up against the best. I think - McEnroe concluded - he knows he has to do it. But I would be surprised if he doesn't win at least one or two," he added.
