Liam Coen on Thursday night informed the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that he will take the Jaguars head-coaching job, a source told ESPN's Jenna Laine, a decision that came a day after he had broken off talks with Jacksonville.
Coen, the 39-year-old offensive coordinator who helped guide Baker Mayfield to a career-best season with the Bucs in 2024, will replace the fired Doug Pederson.
On Wednesday, Coen had been scheduled for an in-person interview with Jaguars owner Shad Khan, general manager Trent Baalke and others, but he pulled himself out of the running for the job and instead agreed to stay in Tampa on a deal that would have made him the NFL's highest-paid coordinator, sources previously told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Hours later, the Jaguars and Baalke parted ways. And then Thursday, Coen re-entered talks with Jacksonville, leading to him agreeing to the job.
The Buccaneers had the third-ranked total offense in the NFL and finished fourth in points scored this season in Coen's first year as the team's offensive coordinator.
The Jaguars are seeking a new head coach after firing Pederson following a 4-13 season.
