In 2016, Owens lost to Dean Ambrose in a Last Man Standing match for the Intercontinental Championship. In 2017, he defended the Universal Championship against Roman Reigns in a No Disqualification match. In 2018, he and Sami Zayn challenged AJ Styles for the WWE Championship in a Handicap match but lost.
In 2021, Owens faced Reigns again in a Last Man Standing match for the Universal Championship but was defeated. In 2023, he lost to Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. In 2024, he challenged Logan Paul for the United States Championship but didnt win. Now in 2025, he will try to take the Undisputed WWE Championship from Cody Rhodes.
With this match, Owens will join Roman Reigns, Triple H, and The Miz as the wrestlers with the most championship matches at the Royal Rumble, each with seven. He will also pass Brock Lesnar and AJ Styles, who have had six title matches at the event. No matter what happens, Owens will be a part of a very special club at the Royal Rumble.
