WWEs NXT brand aired a full episode on The CW on January 28. The show featured several notable moments, including an appearance by former Tag Team Champions A-Town Down Under. Their involvement included a segment of The Grayson Waller Effect, adding to the nights events.
Grayson Waller and Austin Theory had just appeared at WWE RAW in Atlanta on January 27. They made it to NXT the following night, where the crowd greeted them with loud boos.
Oba Femi was the guest on the Grayson Waller Effect in Atlantas Center Stage. The NXT Champion was ready to put on a show, and he didnt have any time for A-Town Downs foolishness.
Atlanta gave Austin Theory a nice reception as their home-town son, but Grayson Waller made sure that people were reminded that the team are heels. Then Waller got to introduce the NXT Champion Oba Femi. He was quick to say that he is used to having championship gold around his shoulder, and the NXT Title is exactly where it needs to be. Austin Theory then reminded everyone that hes the youngest US Champion of all time, and A-Town Down doesnt see Oba Femi as main roster material.
Oba Femi thought it was funny that they invited him on their show if they see no potential. Then Femi dragged them for never becoming NXT Champion. That brought Grayson Waller to wonder if the hype is real. Waller then said that he had competed in four WrestleMania events by the time Oba Femi signed his NXT contract.
Fans started chanting Turn On Grayson at A-Town Down Under, specifically at Theory, who they wanted to turn on Waller. This was quite a shock, but Atlanta gave Theory a lot of love that night. They brushed it off and carried on in spite of that.
Oba Femi said that the team is writing checks that they cant cash, because hes built everything he has brick by brick, and it will be built. Then Oba Femi offered a title opportunity on February 15 at Vengeance Day to either member of A-Town Down Under.
Ava came out next, and she reminded him that he doesnt make the matches. That is when Trick Williams, who was watching backstage, made his way out to confront Femi. After he started off attacking him, Trick Williams ate a Fall From Grace from Oba Femi in the middle of the ring.
This was quite a segment for A-Town Down Under and Oba Femi. It must have been effective, because Ava later booked Obas NXT Title match at Vengeance Day. He will face both Grayson Waller and Austin Theory in a triple threat match.
Only time will tell what is next for the NXT Championship picture. This was certainly a big night for the title scene in Atlanta.
