AEW Dynamites January 31 episode rolled into Huntsville, Alabamas Probst Arena. Mercedes Mone was on the card, and her TBS Title was on the line.
During this weeks AEW Dynamite, Mercedes Mone put the TBS Title on the line against Yuka Sakazaki. This was another chance for the CEO to prove that she belongs on top of the pro wrestling world.
The former Sasha Banks has been getting great treatment by Tony Khan since she inked a deal with AEW. She is also champion in two other companies, so odds are, her reign will continue for a while into 2025.
The TBS Title match was the main event of the evening on AEW Dynamite this week. Yuka got the advantage early on, but Mercedes was able to get away as Yuka got on the top rope and prepared for a dive to the outside. That allowed Mone to take control of the match as they went to commercial.
When we came back from commercial, Mercedes Mone had control, but the Magical Girl proved her nickname as Yuka came back time and time again. This was Mones first match since January 5, when she wrestled in Tokyo, Japan. Still, she was able to put on her A-Game on Dynamite.
Yuka countered out of a Money Maker and landed a thrust kick on the TBS champion. Then Yuka nailed a merry-go-round move on Mone for another two count. Then Mercedes was able to compose herself, nail a backstabber, but she wasnt able to get the win with that move. Yuka kept fighting back without giving Mone much breathing room.
Mercedes Mone got the knees up after a splash from Yuka. Then she nailed a Money Maker to retain the title. This was a clean victory, but Mone spent a lot of time fighting off her opponents relentless advances.
In the end, Mercedes Mone celebrated to close out AEW Dynamite this week. We didnt get a new challenger to stand up to Mone, but its only a matter of time before shes defending one of her titles again.
