Novak Djokovic's left thigh injury is more serious than expected. The former world No. 1 who was forced to retire during the 2025 Australian Open semifinal against Alexander Zverev had posted the resonance of his injury the day after the semifinal on social media to silence all his detractors.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion has already announced that he will miss the Davis Cup tie between Serbia and Denmark. Given the extent of his injury, it is unlikely that the Serbian legend will be able to participate in the Doha ATP 500 in the second half of February.

Petkovic reflects on Nole'sinjury

If his recovery proceeds quickly, the 37-year-old from Belgrade could try to play the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells and Miami in early spring.

However according to former WTA star Andrea Petkovic Nole's injury is by no means trivial.

"Unfortunately, I have had to look at a lot of MRIs during my career and from what I have seen Djokovic's injury is quite serious" said Andrea. "I want to point out that I am not a doctor, but when you see a spot of that size it means that the recovery time is quite long. In addition, we know that the more time passes, the longer it takes the body to recover. I would say that Novak will have to sit out at least two months," he added.

The 2025 Australian Open showed the Serbian that he can still compete at the highest level and that the dream of winning the 25th Grand Slam title of his career is alive. After struggling at the beginning of the tournament, the former world No. 1 raised his level as the rounds went on and surprised Carlitos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals.

The legend from Belgrade has not won a Major title since the 2023 US Open and had a tough season last year, but he is still motivated to prove that age is just a number. As long as he feels motivated, Nole will continue to do what he loves most in his life.
