WWE just made a major move, filing a trademark application for the name Evolve with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on January 30.
The filing covers everything from professional wrestling events to television programming, sparking fresh speculation that the long-rumored NXT Evolve brand is finally taking shape.
For years, WWE has toyed with the idea of expanding its developmental system, and NXT Evolve has been rumored as the next big step. Industry insiders claim that veteran booker Gabe Sapolsky is playing a key role behind the scenes. Sapolsky, who worked alongside Paul Heyman in ECW and co-founded Ring of Honor, ran the original EVOLVE Wrestling promotion before WWE acquired it in 2020.
So, is NXT Evolve finally on the way?
Earlier reports indicate project is still in development, but WWE hasnt locked in a launch date. Independent wrestlers have been approached about potential tapings, but no official plans have been finalized. The concept is expected to showcase WWEs Next in Line (NIL) athletes and developmental talent, providing a stepping stone between the Performance Center and NXT.
Gabe Sapolskys involvement is a big deal, given his track record for spotting and developing elite talent. After initially joining WWE as an NXT creative consultant in 2016, he was released in 2022only to be brought back later that year. With Sapolsky back in the mix and WWE securing the Evolve trademark, it looks like something is brewing behind the scenes.
