Lecce have called left-back Patrick Dorgu up to their matchday squad for Friday's crunch clash with Parma as the Denmark international awaits clearance to fly over for a medical with Manchester United.

Ruben Amorim has been pushing for a new left-back all month and United wrapped up an agreement for Dorgu worth 35m (29.3m) earlier this week, with the 20-year-old initially slated to jet over to Manchester on Thursday for a medical.

Those physical checks were later pushed back until this coming weekend, just days before the transfer window closes, and United will be sweating over their prospective new signing's fitness after he was called up to the Lecce squad for Friday's relegation battle with Parma.

Lecce have fallen into the relegation zone in Serie A but are level on points with Parma, who are two places above them, and only two points behind Como five places higher up in 13th, so Friday's game is seen as crucial to the team's battle for safety.

"As of today, he's a Lecce player, so he is called up and will travel for the game," Lecce boss Marco Giampaolo. "I've made assessments on him, so I'll make the most logical decision because Lecce comes before everything else."

According to Sky Sports, United were made aware that Dorgu would not be given clearance to leave the club until after he features in Friday's game, which is why the full-back's medical was rescheduled for the weekend.

Dorgu's arrival could facilitate the departure of Dutch international Tyrell Malacia. Initial reports linked the left-back with Celtic as a potential alternative to Kieran Tierney, who is not expected to be released from his Arsenal contract this month, while Record have named Benfica as potential suitors.
