Over the past week, fans and insiders have been wondering what Alexander Zverev is still missing to be able to win a Grand Slam title. There is no doubt that the German ace has improved several aspects of his game in recent months, which is why he has overtaken Carlos Alcaraz in second place in the ATP ranking and reached the final at the 2025 Australian Open.

Unlike in the past, his run at Melbourne Park was very consistent and Sascha didn't lose much energy in the rounds leading up to the final. The problem is that the match against Jannik Sinner which could have allowed him to break this curse and enter tennis history was a solo by the world number 1.
The champion from Hamburg was literally demolished by the Italian ace, who defused all his weapons and never gave the feeling of being in trouble. The 23-year-old from Sesto Pusteria prevailed in three sets over the iconic Rod Laver Arena and did not concede a single break point to his rival.
Mouratoglou reflects on Sascha's attitude
Speaking on his Instagram profile, well-known coach Patrick Mouratoglou analyzed Sascha's main problems at this point in his career: I dont think that Sascha loses this Grand Slam final, at least the last one, because he doesnt believe enough. I think he does believe.

But I think that theres still things hes lacking in his game. He improved, for sure. Hes No.2 in the world now, he came back stronger, and I think he added a lot of things to his game.
He continued: When it comes to the big moments, he lacks being bold, being aggressive, taking the risk, taking the match, really taking it. He pushes himself to do it but its not natural yet.
I think he needs more time. I think he needs to do it more and more and more and more and find better efficiency.
With the loss in the AO final last Sunday, Zverev became the sixth player in history to have lost the first three Major finals played.
