Lakers GM Rob Pelinka must be feeling pretty damn good right now after trading a 31-year-old Anthony Davis for a 25-year-old Luka Doncic.
The Lakers GM put out a statement regarding AD and his contribution to the team:
We are overwhelming thankful for ADs six seasons with the Lakers, where he led our franchise to a championship and cemented himself as a perennial All-Star.
About the incoming Slovenian superstar Luka Doncic Pelinka had this to say:
Luka is a one-of-a-kind, global superstar who will lead this franchise for years to come. His killer instincts and commitment to winning championships will be a driving force for the team.
Davis new teammate Klay Thompson, who specifically came to Dallas with the goal of winning a chip beside Kyrie Irving and Luka, doesnt seem too cut up about it all.
I wish Luka the best, Thompson said. It was a joy to play with him in those 22 games we were together, but were obviously going to welcome AD with open armsIts the nature of the business, obviously you have to be professional with all things in front of you. I look forward to keeping the goal the same
Suns star Kevin Durant was completely shook after the trade.
Insane, Durant said. Its crazy. Its crazy I would have never though Luka Doncic would get traded at this age, mid-season The NBA is a wild place, man. If he can get traded then anybodys up for grabs. For the fans, for somebody spectating its pretty fun. I know its kind of nerve-wracking though, probably for Luka, everybody in Dallas, LA, AD For everybody involved, Im sure their heads are spinning right now.
He later added, This gotta be the biggest trade Ive seen since Ive been in the league or since Ive been watching the sport, this is insane. So yeah, every other team might get the confidence to say f it, Ill trade my you know what Im saying? Ill trade my top players, a few of my top players, f it, if this aint working Im still shocked.
