Daniil Medvedev needs a shake-up at this stage of his career, having to overcome a crisis that is getting deeper and deeper. The former world No. 1 was knocked out in the second round at the 2025 Australian Open and looked very frustrated, portending imminent changes in his team.

It is no coincidence that in the days leading up to the Rotterdam ATP 500 the Russian ace announced the end of his collaboration with Gilles Simon. The former French player has tried to help Daniil over the past year and his advice had been very valuable to him during the 2024 Australian Open final against Jannik Sinner.
Although Medvedev lost that match, his surprising strategy surprised the Italian in the first two sets and brought him to just one set away from the second Grand Slam title of his career. As everyone knows, the current world number 1 overturned that match and the Russian's crisis began perhaps on that day.
Medvedev looks for new solutions
The 2021 US Open champion did not win any titles in 2024 and dropped out of the Top 5 after losing to Tien at Melbourne Park. In recent weeks, the champion from Moscow has been working very intensively with Gilles Cervara to add new weapons to his game and to return to shine as he did a few years ago.

During his last practice session in Rotterdam with Belgian veteran David Goffin, the former world No.1 tried several serve and volleys and dropshots.
The last year has certified that Daniil's game is no longer so effective and the opponents have found the necessary solutions to put him in trouble.
"Im always trying to do whatever is the right shot at the right moment the Russian ace explained in his press-conference.
Yesterday I actually remember some dropshots where maybe I should have not done them. It is not something particularly on my mind. Serve and volley Im not a serve and volley player. On practice its always good to try more things he concluded.
