Daniil Medvedev has yet to find his A-game in the new season. However, his meltdowns and tantrums are still at their finest! Where did the latest come? Daniil displayed them in the first round of the ATP 500 event in Rotterdam against the veteranStan Wawrinka.
The two rivals stayed neck and neck in the opening set after numerous turnarounds. Daniil missed a set point on the return in the tenth game and lost the set in the tie break after a massive battle. He received a time violation and blasted the chair umpire,Adel Nour, after the 11th game.
Medvedev asked Nour about the time violation and explained that the ball girl did not provide him with a ball on time. Then, the Russian wanted to know if the chair umpire had some problems and if he could see anything.
Daniil describedAdel as bad and finished his monolog by calling the time violationrubbish. Did the Russian lost his focus after another meltdown? No! He fought well in the tie break and lost it after a massive battle. The top-10 star stayed focused and dominated sets two and three.
How didopening set unfold? Wawrinka converted the third break chance in the third game and denied a break point in the next one to move 3-1in front.
Medvedev pulled the break back in game six and produced another two games later for a 5-3 advantage. The Russian got broken in game nine while serving for the set and squandered a set point on the return in the next one.
His frustration grew, and he unleashed it on Nour after the 11th game. Daniil led 3-1 in the tie break before falling 6-4 behind. The better-ranked player erased three set points and had a chance to wrap up the set at 8-7.
The veteran kept his composure and claimed three straight points, stealing the breaker 10-8 and bringing the opener home after 70 minutes. As a reminder, Medvedev experienced a massive fine at the Australian Open.
Alongside his regular tantrums, the former world no. 1 destroyed the net camera during his first-round clash against the rival ranked outside the top-400!
