The two met back in 2012, when Rory was dating tennis player Caroline Wozniacki. It is interesting that they were friends for many years, but after breaking up with the tennis player, McIlroy realized that Stroll was the love of his life.
"The thing I love about [our relationship] is that we were friends before anything romantic happened," McIlroy told the Irish Independent.
"There was no judgment from day one, which is huge, because that's very hard to find for someone in my position."

Three years later, the two got engaged, and confirmed their wedding in 2017. Although Stroll is not a person who likes cameras and the media, her appearance at tournaments always attracts attention.

Rory McIlroy revealed in 2023, while filming the Netflix series: Full Swing, that he did not want to let his family into the public eye. Rory allowed cameras to film him, even his house and cars, but not his family. The Northern Irishman always emphasized privacy.
"I made sure that the parameters were very much like, look, you can film me at you're not coming to my house, you're not coming in my car, you're not coming anywhere near my family, but you want to do some stuff with me at golf tournaments, totally fine," he said.
The 35-year-old is focused on his family, and the fact that they managed to solve the problems between them speaks volumes about how much Rory values his partner and how much he wants to preserve his marriage.
