Liverpool plan to draw upon Trent Alexander-Arnold's emotional connection to the club he grew up supporting in a final, last-ditch attempt to prevent the right-back from joining Real Madrid this summer, according to a report in Spain.
Alexander-Arnold will be out of contract at Liverpool in June, inspiring unrelenting links to Real Madrid throughout what may be his last season on Merseyside. The Spanish giants even tried to whisk the right-back away in January, making multiple bids which were all rebuffed.
The 26-year-old has already supposedly agreed a deal with Madrid for a summer move, but Liverpool haven't given up hope just yet.
The Reds have exhausted their financial scope and are now planning on drawing upon the emotional pull of playing for his boyhood club according to AS. The Spanish outlet claims that Liverpool are hoping that Anfield "softens him up and makes him change his mind" at the end of a trophy-laden campaign.
Liverpool are well placed in the Premier League and Champions League, topping both tables with an almost fully fit squad.
Alexander-Arnold has already been presented with the details of his potential Real Madrid contract, including its salary and duration. The deal is thought to be "90%" done, missing just the player's signature.
Born and bred on Merseyside, Alexander-Arnold grew up in a house which almost backed on to Liverpool's old training ground, where he used to peer through the cracks in the walls to get a glimpse of his heroes. The club's open-top bus parade to celebrate the 2005 Champions League triumph drove down the street he lived on.
In 2019, Alexander-Arnold was on the other side of the celebrations and he had won every major trophy available by the age of 23. The right-back has revealed that his last remaining desire is to win the Ballon d'Or. Only one player has ever lifted the golden orb while at Liverpool (Michael Owen), while an unrivalled eight different individuals have claimed the award in Real Madrid colours.
