Jannik Sinner is still waiting to know his fate regarding the doping case that hit him in March 2024 and which has not yet come to its conclusion. The world No. 1 had been recognized as innocent by ITIA shortly before the start of the 2024 US Open, but WADA surprised everyone last October by announcing its decision to appeal the acquittal sentence.
The trial before the CAS in Lausanne is scheduled for mid-April and the Italian ace risks being suspended for one to two years.
Despite the strong stress and negative opinion of other players, the 23-year-old from Sesto Pusteria continued to play his best tennis and demonstrated a mental strength almost unique for a player of his age.
Jannik's last twelve months are destined to enter the history of tennis and have definitively projected him into a new dimension.
Sinner's main strength is his desire to keep improving, which is why he has worked even harder throughout the off-season. The Italian started 2025 in style and won the Australian Open for the second year in a row.
Sinner still has a burden
The 3-time Grand Slam champion only hopes that justice will take its course and that he can put this ugly story behind him.
In a recent interview with 'Sky Sports Tennis', former British ace Tim Henman analyzed the impact of Sinner's case on the image of tennis: It hasnt been a good look for the sport, especially when you throw in the Swiatek and Halep cases.
There is this legal process, but its frustrating for the sport and the fans that this process started last year and we are going to get a decision in April. Thats too long.
Personally, in all those cases, I dont think in any way that the players are trying to cheat. However, we have to get to the outcome quicker than that.
Im amazed that Sinner has been able to play such good tennis with that cloud over his head.
