Holger Rune is trying to regain his certainties in this first part of the 2025 season. The former Top 5 player is still a long way from the level that allowed him to shock the whole world at the end of 2022, when he defeated Novak Djokovic in the final of the Rolex Paris Masters, but he seems well on his way to becoming a top player again.

The young Dane reached the round of 16 at the 2025 Australian Open losing in four sets to world number 1 Jannik Sinner, in a match in which he did not take advantage of the Italian ace's malaise between the second and third sets.
Subsequently, Holger played the Davis Cup tie between Denmark and Serbia, propitiating the amazing comeback of his team (which was down 0-2 at the end of the first day). The current world number 14 is participating in the Rotterdam ATP 500 this week, where he made his debut with a victory against Italian Lorenzo Sonego.
Rune will return to action against Spanish player Pedro Martinez today and will look to enter the quarterfinals in the prestigious Dutch ATP 500.
Rune returns to Barcelona
Meanwhile, it has been announced that the 2022 Rolex Paris Masters champion will participate in the Barcelona Open this year. The 21-year-old Dane has decided to return to play the prestigious tournament in Catalonia (on red clay) after a four-year absence.

Rune had only played this event in 2021, when he was still very young. After passing the qualifiers, he lost in the first round to the Spaniard Albert Ramos.
The Barcelona ATP 500 is a tournament full of history and tradition, in which some of the best players in the world participate every year. The center court is named after the Spanish legend Rafa Nadal, who monopolized this tournament for many years.
Rune will not be the only big name present in the 2025 edition, as Carlitos Alcaraz, Casper Ruud and Andrey Rublev have already been announced.
Red clay is Holger's favorite surface, although the latter has won the most important title of his career so far on the hard court.
