The first part of Carlos Alcaraz's career was characterized by some peaks that impressed the whole world. The young Spanish champion has already won a lot, including four Grand Slam titles and five Masters 1000, as well as being world number 1 for 36 weeks.
As if that were not enough, the 21-year-old from Murcia was the youngest ever to win Roland Garros and the Wimbledon Championships in the same season and won the silver medal at the Paris Olympics, losing only to Serbian legend Novak Djokovic in the final.
At the same time, there is no denying that Carlitos still has weaknesses. The former world number 1 does not have the necessary consistency during the season and suffers very sudden drops, which lead him to suffer unexpected defeats even against opponents much inferior to him from a technical point of view.
It is no coincidence that although he won two Major titles in 2024 the Spaniard is almost 5000 points away from his huge rival Jannik Sinner in the ATP ranking. Unlike Carlos, the Italian ace has fewer peaks but his regularity during the year is unapproachable for anyone.
Lorenzi on Alcaraz's weaknesses
Interviewed by the Italian broadcaster 'Super Tennis', former world number 33 Paolo Lorenzi explained what Alcaraz is still missing: "His style is not fully defined and this makes his level quite unstable during the year. He has not yet found his precise identity, a constant style that allows him to always or almost always beat opponents who are outside the Top 20 of the ATP ranking.
When he plays his best tennis, he is truly phenomenal and is capable of defeating even Sinner.
However, his current weaknesses are noticeable when facing second-tier players. He often lacks consistency during matches."
The 4-time Grand Slam champion is working this aspect together with his team. Carlitos knows very well that he needs to be more consistent if he wants to get closer to the top position of the ATP ranking again.
