Jannik Sinner has been a player to beat since the beginning of 2024! The young Italian conquered three of the previous five Major titles, dominating the rest of the field and building a massive buffer between him and his closest rivals.
The 23-year-old became world no. 1 after last year's Roland Garros, adding his name to the list of tennis immortals. Jannik is spending his 35th week on the ATP throne, moving one behind Carlos Alcaraz and preparing to pass his great rival in two weeks.
Sinner finished the 2023 season ranked 4th. He came to Melbourne as one of the favorites last year and proved that on the court. The Italian toppled Novak Djokovic in the semi-final and turned the tables versus Daniil Medvedev in the final to lift his first Major crown at 22.
Jannik used that boost and never looked back! He wrapped up the year with an impressive 73-6 score and wrote history books. Sinner lifted eight ATP trophies, including two Majors, the ATP Finals and three Masters 1000 events!
He left everyone far behind and embraced his first year-end no. 1 honor in impressive style. After the Australian Open, Jannik conquered Rotterdam and Miami, leading the ATP Race after three months. The Italian fell to Carlos Alcaraz in the Roland Garros semi-final despite leading two sets to one.
However, he collected enough ATP points to dethrone Novak Djokovic and become the 29th world no. 1 in ATP history. Sinner added more trophies to his collection in Cincinnati and New York, extending his hard-court brilliance.
Not stopping there, the 23-year-old defeated Novak Djokovic in the Shanghai Masters final and entered the ATP Finals as the favorite. Last year's finalist played at a high level in front of the home crowd in Turin. Jannik defeated five rivals and secured his eighth ATP title of the season.
A couple of weeks later, world no. 1 led Italy toward the Davis Cup crown defense, wrapping up the season exactly how he started it. Sinner started the 2025 season in Melbourne and defended the title. The Italian dropped two sets in seven matches.
He beat Ben Shelton in the semi-final and defeated world no. 2 Alexander Zverev 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 in the title clash for his third consecutive hard-court Major trophy. Jannik defended 2000 ATP points and kept his massive lead over Zverev and Alcaraz.
The Italian skipped the ATP 500 title defense in Rotterdam, taking more time off the court. We will see him in action in Doha in a couple of weeks.
