Coach Rick Macci believes Coco Gauff's potential is "unlimited" but has identified her second serve and forehand as two shots that must be addressed in order for the American to become a dominant Grand Slam force.

Even before the 20-year-old became a Major winner at the 2023 US Open, Serena Williams' childhood coach was publicly stating that her forehand needed to be fixed.

A year and a half later, the 70-year-old thinks the world No. 3 definitely still has work to do with her forehand.

Also, Macci would like to see Gauff turn to a biomechanics coach to help her with her serve - like Aryna Sabalenka famously did in 2022.

"Coco has unlimited potential and her game can grow because wheels/backbone has been her calling card," Williams' childhood coach wrote on X.

"Here to stay and if second serve is biomechanically tweaked and forehand simplified and shoots lower over the net like a rocket many Slams will be in her pocket."

Gauff admitted that there was work to do after her Australian Open loss

After winning her first WTA Finals title and also going 5-5 at the United Cup to help her nation seal the title, the world No. 3 also won her opening four matches at Melbourne Park.

But then, she sprayed six double faults and 41 unforced errors in a 5-7 4-6 quarterfinal loss to Paula Badosa.

Later in her presser, the American didn't want to be too pessimistic or negative but admitted that some things needed to be addressed.

"I think it's just a lot more work to do. I'm obviously disappointed, but I'm not completely crushed," Gauff said following her Australian Open exit.

"I'm looking forward to a lot. Even though I lost today, I feel like I'm in an upward trajectory."

Gauff is expected to return to action at next week's WTA 1000 tournament in Doha.
