WWE can be ruthless at times and at this point, releases are simply part of the business as they can happen at any time. On February 7, WWE held its latest slew of talent cuts that saw quite a few names getting released and now the backstage reaction to the same has been revealed.
Several talent were suddenly released this week, including the likes of The Authors of Pain and Paul Ellering, Sonya Deville, Cedric Alexander and Blair Davenport. While releases usually involve underused talent, some names have been unexpected. Cedric Alexanders departure wasnt a huge shock, but Blair Davenports release was heartbreaking since she never really got a chance to shine.
According to Chris Featherstone, who has broken several stories lately, some WWE talent were caught off guard by the latest cuts, especially since many of them had been on TV recently or were set to get more screen time.
It was reported that after The Final Testaments feud with The Wyatt Sicks ended, there were no creative plans left for AOP or Ellering and this made their release inevitable. As for Sonya Deville, she was told WWE wouldnt be renewing her contract.
Cedric Alexander was simply released and will be a free agent in 90 days. This is despite the fact he signed a multi-year deal last year. Regarding Blair Davenport, WWE simply didnt have any plans for her after she was called up to the main roster, but she is expected to get lots of attention from various promotions all over the world.
With WWE constantly changing its roster, many of the released stars will likely find new opportunities in AEW, TNA, or the independent scene. However, the emotional toll of sudden firings will never stop being a major topic of discussion. Nonetheless, fans are hoping all the aforementioned talent will land on their feet elsewhere and prove to the world what they are made of.
