Coco Gauff suffered a shock exit in her Doha opener, while Elena Rybakina dominantly won her first match.
After a first-round bye, the third-seeded American took on Marta Kostyuk on Tuesday.
And the unseeded Ukrainian - who can be a tricky opponent to any player if she is feeling her game - registered a 6-2 7-5 win.
On the other side, No. 5 seed Rybakina dismantled Peyton Stearns 6-2 6-4.
In the Doha round-of-16, Kostyuk plays against the winner of the match between Magda Linette and Magdalena Frech
Meanwhile, the Kazakh is set to battle against either No. 12 seed Mirra Andreeva or Rebecca Sramkova.
How Kostyuk, Rybakina won their matches?
Gauffs serve was a problem as she blasted seven double faults and lost her serve three times in the first set.

Down by a set, the American bounced back by breaking the Ukrainian in the third game.
However, the third seeds lead was short-lived after Kostyuk got the break back in the eighth game and then saved a break point in the following game to go 5-4.
With Gauff down 5-6 and serving to stay in the match, the Ukrainian got her fifth break of the match and that sealed the deal.
Now Kostyuk has two wins in five matches against the 2023 US Open champion.

In the Rybakina and Stearns match, the Kazakh started with two early breaks and a 5-1 lead.
While the American managed to get one break back in the seventh game, it didnt change much since the No. 5 seed earned another break in the eighth game to seal the opener.

In the second set, the Kazakh opened a 5-0 lead but then stunningly allowed Stearns to get both breaks back.
Fortunately for Rybakina, she was able to stay calm - break the American again in the 10th game when she was serving to stay in the match - and complete a two-set win.
