Holger Rune admitted that he did a great job during the off-season to shine again in 2025, but the results have not been as bright so far. His run at the Australian Open ended against world number 1 Jannik Sinner in the round of 16, at the end of a match in which the young Dane may have some regrets.

Rune did not take advantage of the discomfort suffered by the Italian ace between the second and third sets as he should have, allowing his opponent to stay close in the score before making the difference in the second part of the match.

The 2022 Rolex Paris Masters champion played the Rotterdam ATP 500 last week, where he was quite unlucky. The former Top 5 defeated Italian star Lorenzo Sonego on his debut and was favored against Pedro Martinez in the next round, but he was struck by a fever on the night before the match and could not play his best tennis.

Despite having little energy and having spent an almost sleepless night, Holger did not want to retire and entered the court anyway ending up overwhelmed by the Spanish ace.

If we add to these results the loss in the first round in Brisbane at the beginning of the year, it is not easy to give a positive vote to Rune at the beginning of the season.

Rune feels better

The 21-year-old Dane flew to South America in these hours and will participate in the Buenos Aires ATP, on a surface that should be ideal for his game.

Interviewed by the official ATP website, Rune expressed his feelings: "I have already practiced once here in Buenos Aires and I am trying to adapt to the conditions as quickly as possible. The last time I played here was several years ago and a lot has changed.

Red clay is my favorite surface and the next Grand Slam tournament will be played in Paris."

The world number 12 continued: "I was hoping to get a better result in Rotterdam, but unfortunately I got sick and couldn't compete at my best. Now I feel good."
