Roger Federer had to retire from professional tennis in 2022 due to the condition of his knee, which prevented him from continuing to play at the highest level. The former world No. 1 was happy to travel around the planet despite his age and would have liked to challenge players much younger than him, but the numerous surgeries he underwent between 2020 and 2021 did not improve the situation enough.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion played his last official event at the 2022 Laver Cup, receiving a truly wonderful tribute at the O2 Arena in London and sharing the court with his eternal rival Rafael Nadal for the last time.

Fans around the world were hoping that the former Swiss champion would set up some exhibition matches with his old rivals after retiring, but that hasn't happened until now. With the exception of a small performance and a brief practice session with Carlos Alcaraz in Shanghai last October, Roger has not appeared on the tennis court (at least in front of the cameras).

Roddick 'calls' Federer

A short time ago, US Open director Stacey Allaster announced that starting with the 2025 edition of the last Major of the season the mixed doubles tournament will take place during the so-called 'Fan Week' (the week before the start of the main draw).

This news has generated mixed reactions in the tennis world, between those who claim that it is a correct choice and those who disagree.

On the latest edition of his podcast, former world No.1 Andy Roddick said that bringing in legends like Federer and Serena Williams would be an excellent idea: I will tell you this, I want to put this out into the universe right now. There are some recently retired players I dont know about a little Roger and Serena action.

The American continued: I dont know what Rafa is doing right now. I am just saying, lets throw a bomb of enthusiasm into this thing! This is just me wishing I dont know.
