AEW has several former WWE personalities, including Tony Chimel, who was a longtime announcer on SmackDown during the Ruthless Aggression era and into the early 2010s. Interestingly, Chimel has now stated that he believes AEW would allow him to work on John Cenas retirement tour if the opportunity arose.
While speaking to Donnie DaSilva and Jimmy Korderas on theirHUGE POP! podcast, Tony Chimel acknowledged how much his voice and John Cenas entrance have been connected throughout their careers. He remains open to the idea of returning to WWE for Cenas farewell tour.
Chimel, who has done some work with AEW, also believes the company would be open-minded about him announcing for Cenas WWE sendoff. He suggested that AEWs management is fairly flexible with outside opportunities. In fact, Chimel is not ruling out working for AEW itself.
John Cena is set to retire in December this year and will never wrestle again, but he will definitely have a run of a lifetime until then. Bringing back Tony Chimel, who was the voice of Cenas rise to superstardom, would definitely be a solid addition. Therefore, well have to see if it will happen in the end.
