Fans were hoping for a brighter start to the season for Holger Rune. In this first month and a half of 2025, the young Danish ace has achieved results very similar to those of last season and is struggling to take a further step forward.
The 2022 Rolex Paris Masters champion was immediately eliminated at the Brisbane International at the beginning of the year, while at the Australian Open he did not go beyond the fourth round eliminated by current world number 1 Jannik Sinner (despite the Italian champion being in precarious health that day due to illness).
Rune had made a good start to the Rotterdam ATP 500 last week defeating Lorenzo Sonego on his debut but his run ended against Pedro Martinez in the next round also due to the fever that had struck him the previous night.

After the prestigious Dutch tournament, the former Top 5 didn't have much time to get used to the conditions in Buenos Aires.
The Danish player has chosen to play this tournament to collect points on his favorite surface, the red clay, on which the next Grand Slam tournament (Roland Garros) will be played.
Rune reflects on his currentlevel
Until a year and a half ago, Rune was considered as the main obstacle of Jannik Sinner and Carlitos Alcaraz for the future, but his rise has abruptly stopped for a number of reasons.
Interviewed by 'Ol' ahead of his debut in Baires against local idol Mariano Navone, Holger discussed his current level: "I'm a player who works constantly. If I knew exactly what I am missing to get closer to Sinner and Alcaraz, I would already be at that level. My team and I are trying to figure out how to improve some aspects of my game and I have to have confidence in this process.

I have resumed working with my old coach and the feelings are really positive. I feel that my level is increasing as the matches go by and that I am going in the right direction."
